FAQ

This is the Samoth's FAQ. If you don't find an answer in this, ask for it in the forums.

What is it ?

Samoth is a RPG project, started in 2004, whose aim is to become a videogame like we've craved for : crazy, funny, pleasant to play, and full of subliminal messages enticing people to send us their money.
All that in a medieval-fantasy universe, and as flexible as possible.
Full name : Samoth's Another Magic & Oneiric Territory of Hope. Which seems rather ... cabbalistic, but we like it.
Kind of game : 3D solo RPG, with a FPS or TPS view.
Programming language C++
Licensing :Open Source. See below.
For further info, you can read the game design overview.

Why a game ?

Reasons are simple :
- Learning. Increasing one's knowledge is a powerful and universal motivation, and making a game makes learn lots of things.
- Fun. Working on Samoth isn't very annoying, I can tell you.
- Self-satisfaction. Self-explanatory, isn't it ?

How can I play ?

Currently, you can't. No playable version has been released yet.

Is Samoth free ?

Yes. Samoth is open source, so you can use, modify and redistribute any project file.

For further information about it :
- GNU General Public License for source code
- GNU Free Documentation License for documentation
- Common Creative License 2.5 for artistic creations and media.

When will it be done ?

Oh ... rather a difficult question. There are releases, but there not very much of a game yet. As a matter of fact, it's pretty hard to predict things like that. I personnally really have no idea when Samoth will be finished anyway ; so, wait and see ...

Where to contact us ?

People are fond of msn. We aren't. If you wish to contact us, you can use the contact form (on the left side), or post in the forums (pretty much the same location)
Or you can connect to irc : #samoth on irc.freenode.net. I don't guarantee there will be anyone, but you're more likely to find people to talk about Samoth on this channel than on #platypus .
